A Good Start to 2015
We rang in the new year at home, watching the fireworks from our balcony, and while we did not have view of the bridge, our view was still worth staying up.
The next morning, we decided to head out for the Eastern Shore in hopes of finally completing the Bondi to Coogee walk. The cliffside walk is only 6km, but the steep inclines and multiple set of stairs make it a bit challenging (especially with a baby in tow!). We decided to take a bus all the way out to Coogee and make our way back towards Bondi because there are more transportation options from the Bondi area.
We missed the bus we intended on taking so it took us a while to get out there, and it seems that most of Sydney had been at the beach for a while. JZ did some research while we waited on the bus, and determined we should hop off a couple stops before the beach to have the best lunch selection. It worked out really well because the stop happened to be right at the end of a long line of traffic to the beach. We decided on lunch at a burger joint because it looked busy and the line was not as far out the door as the sushi place. However, we are slowly realizing that the beef here tastes different somehow, and we aren’t sure it’s a good kind of different. Fueled up, we began our coastal walk to Bondi.
The weather was perfect for being in the sun! The temperature was in the mid-80s with a great breeze off the water. Every beach was very crowded, but Coogee seemed especially packed since it is one of the larger shores in the area. JZ got a decent panorama with his phone to show how wide it stretches, and I made sure to capture just how densely packed it was.
We were happy not to be fighting for space on the beach, and planned a beach day for the weekend because the weather. We have done most of the coastal walk since arriving, but today we wanted to complete the whole walk. In addition to amazing beaches and coves, there are some great parks along walk. One even has an outdoor gym with an elliptical machine and stationary bike. John decided to show off by doing a pull-up while he had CZ in the baby carrier, but when I asked him to do another one so I could take a picture, this is all he had.
While we intended to complete the entire walk, everything was so crowded that we decided to catch the bus back from less busy stop in between two of the smaller beaches along the walk. It was the smart choice, and we were glad we thought to check the bus schedule when we saw the stop. We passed a bus returning from Bondi, and it looked uncomfortably full.
Now here we are, 5 days into 2015, and in addition of our fantastic New Year’s celebrations, we picked up a new exercise routine (cliché we know), we have a food processor (Hooray for hummus!), and we had a nice day at the beach yesterday. Life is good.
